Lab Director and Professor of Hydrology
Alejandro (Lejo) Flores, PhD
A native of Golden, CO, Lejo received his PhD in Hydrology at MIT and has been at Boise State since fall 2009. He is passionate about the ecohydrology and climate of mountains, and using models, data, and scientific computing to understand them. In his free time, he is an avid weightlifter, and also practices Taekwondo and Judo with his two kids.

Senior Research Scientist
Irene Cionni, PhD
Originally from Italy, Irene holds a Ph.D. in Physics and has worked in leading institutions across Italy, Germany, and New Zealand gaining expertise in Earth System modeling, data analysis, and climate services. Since 2023, she has been at Boise State, applying machine learning to land-atmosphere interactions. Passionate about the mountains, she spends her free time climbing, hiking, and cross-country skiing with her two daughters.

PhD Computing Student
Stanely Akor
Stanley is from Nigeria and holds a bachelor's degree in Physics and a master's degree in Mathematical Sciences from the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Rwanda. He is pursuing a PhD in Computational Science under the guidance of Professor Flores. His research involves studying snowpacks in the complex terrains of the Northwestern U.S., utilizing numerical models and machine learning techniques. Stanley enjoys spending quality time with family and friends outside his academic pursuits.

PhD Computing Student
Kachinga Silwimba
Kachinga Silwimba is a Ph.D. student at Boise State University specializing in machine learning for hydrological modeling. His research focuses on developing efficient hydrological model emulators to enhance prediction accuracy while reducing computational costs. With expertise in model calibration, uncertainty estimation, and AI-driven hydrological simulations, he integrates high-performance computing, geospatial analysis, and big data methodologies. In his spare time, he enjoys playing soccer, watching sports events, and working on cars.

MS Hydrologic Sciences Student
Zoe Flanzer
After completing a B.A. in Geography and Geology at the University of Vermont, Zoe began her M.S. in Hydrologic Sciences at Boise State University in the fall of 2024. She draws inspiration from the natural environment, and her research aims to understand how a changing snowpack alters components of the water budget. In her free time, she can often be found in the mountains skiing, hiking, biking, or climbing.

PhD Computing Student
Titus Nde
Titus is originally from Ghana and is a data science (specifically machine learning) enthusiast. He holds a BSc in Actuarial Science and an MSc in Mathematical Sciences and is currently a Computing Ph.D. student at Boise State University. His current research focuses on calculating vegetation structure (height) and biomass for dryland ecosystems and using deep learning approaches to downscale spatiotemporal observations of snowpack albedo. He enjoys playing soccer, watching sports, watching, and music.
